Refuse & Recycling

GFL Environmental has been contracted by the City to pick up refuse on a weekly basis,  and for curbside recycling, which is picked up on the second and fourth Thursday of the month.  

View the  2024 Recycling Pickup Schedule here.   The City pays GFL on a monthly basis and bills end users.  GFL will only collect garbage that is placed and fits into the approved container.

Pickup begins at 6:00 a.m.  Toters may be put out the night before an should be away from the curb by the next day.

NOTE:  Styrofoam is not recyclable. Please put in trash containers only.

Please be aware that refuse haulers are only able to remove trash in the containers provided by Area Disposal/GFL.  Please refer to the toter lid for instructions on proper street placement with arrows facing the street.

For residents who have not yet taken advantage of the Curbside Recycling Program, recycling toters can also be requested by calling City Hall 309-962-3031.

How to Order a Refuse Container

Each residence is allowed a single refuse container.  If you do not have one please contact City Hall at 309-962-3031.

Additional containers are available for rent from GFL Environmental at 1-800-935-5652.

Requirements for Trash Pick-Up

Trash containers are to be placed at the curbside with the front facing the street.

Pickup begins as early as 6:00 a.m. on pickup days.

The automated trucks will only empty the contents of the trash container.  Boxes and bags lying outside the container will not be collected.

Residents may contact GFL Environmental (1-800-935-5652 ) and make arrangements for pickup of trash in excess of what fits in the container.  Check Bulk Items - Drop Off / Pick Up Program details for disposal of large household items.

Bulk Items - Drop Off / Pick Up Program

Bulk Item Drop-Off / Curbside Pick-Up Program

This program is limited to City of Le Roy residents only.

Service is limited to bulk items such as: couches, mattress / box springs, chairs / recliners and similar household furnishings.  This service does NOT include:  construction materials, trash bags or electronics of any type.

Residents must contact City Hall during normal business hours, Mon-Fri 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. to schedule bulk item drop-off or curbside pick-up.

Minimum $25.00 charge per item.  Fee to be paid prior to scheduling curbside pick-up by city crews.  Examples would include:  couch - $25; mattress/box springs & frame - $25; two (2) couches - $50

Residents may drop-off referenced items by contacting City Hall and scheduling a time during normal working hours Mon-Fri 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at No Charge. Bulk item dumpster rules

Bulk item container is located within a secured area and may only be accessed by authorized personnel during normal working hours.  Note:  the disposal site is monitored and anyone involved in illegal dumping will be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by municipal law. 

Please consider donating usable household furnishings as an alternative to landfill disposal.

What if I need a dumpster?

Residents are welcome to rent a dumpster from any contractor that services Le Roy.

The City of Le Roy also has two 15- yard dumpsters available for rent.   More info

Brush Pick-Up

The City crew picks up brush every other week from April through the first week in November.

Pickup weeks are indicated on the Community Calendar

Large branches, twigs, sticks may be left at the roadside for chipping / disposal by the city crews at no charge.

Piles too large for the chipper will be picked up with the loader after chipping is complete.

Landfill

The City of Le Roy owns a landfill that has been closed since the early 1980’s.  The City is currently working with IEPA to close this facility and complete all required functions.  This will include monitoring and cover over the actual site.

It is the current the site of the frisbee golf course.
